10 days in Lumut OBS

I should have updated it earlier... it's almost 3 months since I left Lumut...(actually i don really know how I spent my time for the past few weekends lar~~just no time to update it..haha)

Sunset in Lumut OBS

I went Lumut with 75 other FSTEP-ians. We reached there at around afternoon, and we were divided into 2 groups , 6 watches(teams) after a short briefing. I was in Group 2 and my watch's name was "Jerai" (name after a mountain in Kedah) .

All other watches were also name after the names of mountains in Malaysia.

Of course, out of 5 other watches, I love Watch Chamah the most!! XD

Me and my fellow watch-man~

After lunch, we went into another introduction by our 'instructor', basically he briefed us about the rules and regulations of the school (why school? the place is called outward bound school ma..), and surrendered out our personal belongings which were not 'usable' in the school. (handphone/IC/RM/lighter/food/knife...etc)

Later at the night after dinner, we had an ice-breaking session with other group members. (Haha, actually no need ice breaking la..we've known each other long enough, ice melted d~~)

Activities

1) Rope climbing

It was an easy task, I just climbed up a rope-made net. It is similar to a indoor rock-climbing but much much more easier. As long as you don't have hypsophobia(fear of high places), you can finish the task easily. :)

Anyway, I've learned the basic steps of rock-climbing and how to use those safety equipment of rock-climbing.

2) Raft-building

The main task of the day was to build a raft by using some PVC pipes and big water tongs. Use your own creativity and build the raft. Unfortunately, our raft was an unsuccessful one, and needed our instructor to help then we could make one. Haiz..

Finally, the raft was on the water and we sailed out to the sea. But on the way back, the 'helpful' instructor who helped us to build the raft, sabotaged it when we were almost reached the shore. Of course he made it in the middle of the sea and we went wet and swam back to the shore...

3) Wall Climbing

It's not easy as what you see. No time limitation, but it uses a lot of your energy.
(I couldn't finish it ... >.<)

Is it Jenny?

4) Pre-jungle Trekking

This was the day we learned some camping techniques and jungle tracking techniques. We were introduced those techniques and in the second half of the day, I should have joined my watch to do a pre-jungle tracking, but I wasn't feeling well, migraine.... haiz.. stayed at the medical bay with 2 other guys from SIA/Silk Air. (Singapore airlines send their pilots-to-be in this programme also but what they have is much much more 'intensive' then us)

I didn't know what's going on on that day, I was just sleeping till the time they came back. Later that night, I was told that there's a formation of jungle tracking, and each member play a role. My role was IRON MAN!! (it's a 'nothing-specific-for-u-to-do-and-just-keep-following position, good huh~')

5) Jungle-trekking cum Group Camping

Early morning in the 4th day, we started our 'journey' to the campsite. It's really a journey; it's my first time walking in a jungle for almost 8 hours!! It's really tiring. The path in the jungle isn't easy for walking, and a lot of leeches tried to 'make friends' with us!! (in our watch, LaiMun was the most 'friendly' team member with the leeches and she attracted the most leeches~) Btw, leech bites isn't painful, and basically you don't feel a thing. (but it's really disgusting la...to see a worm stick on you and keep sucking your blood...)

Our watch was the first to reach the campsite. Setting up the camps, cooking, and sleep...nothing much to do that night. That was the first night we sleep under no roof.

6) Jungle Trekking II

After the night under stars, we went into jungle again and trekked back to school... different road, but same friends who liked stick to us.

7) Solo camping

Each of us got an individual campsite and tried to survive in the campsite for one night. (Basically, nothing much for us to do la... just relax, enjoy and think back about what we are and what we've done wrong...)

It ought to be a relaxing day, but the worst thing was RAINING!!! It was raining that night and I couldn't sleep!! It was more tiring than other days!!

8) Kayak

Hao-Lian?????

Day 8, kayaking. It was the day we kayaked to Pangkor island from school. The day before, we had some training on the kayaking, we trained in pairs. On the night before we departed to Pangkor, my partner dumped me (she gave excuses la..like don have confidence with me lar..blah blah blah) . She left me no choice but to find another partner from other watch because my watch had odd number of members and those kayaks were 2-person kayaks. Thanks to Cammah watch, they found me one.

Capsize (overturn accidentally)

It was not a smooth trip to Pangkor. Like jungle trekking, there's a formation for kayaking. We kayaked in a diamond shape, where captain led the way, a sweeper at the back to make sure no one left behind, a left flanker and a right flanker to take care of the formation so that no one beyond them.

At first, my kayak kept meeting left flanker and the right flanker (yes, we were demonstrating zig-zag kayaking style where other went STRAIGHT).

Later part of the trip, I think those who participated will remember my kayak forever. Our kayak WENT CAPSIZE!! (@#$%^&* out of 36 kayaks, only mine went down!! Shit)

We were rescued by instructors in speedboat and most of the trip was on speedboat. No fun at all..haiz...

9) Rappelling

There's another challenge waiting for us in the island - rappelling. As usual, after reaching the
island, kept the kayaks and set the camps.

After all set, we went for rappelling. That's a good experience as I could view the beautiful scenery of the island as I was moving down from the high ground. The island is really beautiful~~

Pangkor island beach

Spent one whole day in the island, picnic, enjoying the wind and the water... the most relaxing activity in that 10 days...haha..

Billy's talkshow in Pangkor

We kayaked back to the school in the morning of the 9th day (luckily no capsize this time although my kayak still went zig-zag).

-------------------------------------------------------

Experienced a lot of things in these 10 days. My relationship with other FSTEP-ians become closer. Really had a great time there.

Thanks to OBML, Mr. Najib (my istructor, not the PM) , all the participants of the programme, and FSTEP who sponsored me there..thank you.

Thanks for the photos by Farah, Jerry, SK2 and Nancy (Lat Da). (all photos stolen from facebook)

Thanks to Max also for refreshing my memory..haha

Pre -Lumut OBS

I will be going to Lumut (Perak) tomorrow~~for 10 days~~

It will be my 1st time joining this kind of event (OBS - Outward Bound School), well, I have prepared a lot of things, don't know whether I will be able to use them or not.. =.="

My feeling now, is a mixture of a lot of feelings... excited, fear, happy, unknown,....etc.

The good thing is, the costs of participating this OBS (RM 1,300-00 - damn expensive man!!) and the transportation are borne by FSTEP..haha, I don't have to pay them~~

But, I need to buy a lot of things too la, torchlight, track-bottoms, extra shirts, blah blah blah...really burn a hole on my wallet la... >.<

From tomorrow onwards, 10 consecutive days without my "小白" , no handphone, no movies, no internet... Well, I hope the camp will be a joy and meaningful one..haha (to compensate my loss of use of my P1)

I will try to update after I am back from Lumut~
